Happy National Organize Your Home Office Day!!!

Hello organizing faithful... today is National Organize your Home Office Day, a great day to tackle one of the most challenging places in most people's homes!
It's amazing how much stuff can accumulate in a short amount of time on our desks!
Bills, Papers, Proposals, Magazines and books we've wanted to read, papers from kids schools that need to be signed, A check that you meant to cash last week, a birthday card that you should have sent two weeks ago, the phone number to that new spa you've been wanting to try but couldn't find the number to, the contract that you were supposed to mail out, a gift certificate to a restaurant that someone gave you for your anniversary, and who knows what else...
Our home office tends to be the place to drop all of our VIPs (very Important Papers) However, if we do not keep the area organized it turns into the great black hole where papers go in and never come out (at least not on time anyways.)
So today, I encourage you to Celebrate National Organize your Home office day by taking a few moments to declutter your desk area... don't think of it as cleaning think of it as a treasure hunt... there is no telling what lost treasures you may find lurking under that stack of papers.
As always if you need help with this process and learning to maintain it contact

Clutter Awareness Week

Starting on Sunday March 15th is National Clutter Awareness week and Simple Organized Sanity has partnered with the Springfield Victory Mission to encourage individuals to donate their unwanted clutter to people who can use it.

The Victory Mission has numerous programs that strive to help those in need in the greater Springfield, MO area. Consider cleaning out your closet and donating clothes that you no longer wear or fit into, towels that you don't need, and extra linens. Clean out kitchen cabinets and donate unused kitchen items like extra dishes, cooking appliances, and Tupperware.

Is your garage full of unused furniture, lawn care items, tools, medical equipment? The Victory Mission will put it to good use by making sure that someone in need receives your donation.

If you are interested in learning more about this partnership program please visit http://www.simpleorganizedsanity.com/DeclutteringforChrist.html and as always if you need help with your decluttering project contact Simple Organized Sanity at 417-733-2089.

Organize for free... creativly reuse.

Spring Fever is in full swing in many households, which means that many people are starting their spring cleaning. According to a recent study 46% of people rank getting more organized as the top thing they want to accomplish with spring cleaning.

With that many people desiring to get more organized... why is it that so many have trouble following through on this lofty goal? I have found one of the biggest things standing in between people and thier organization dreams is the potential costs. Many people assume that to get organized means that you are going to have to invest in containers, boxes, racks, shelving systems, bags, labels, and much more.

While it is true that you may require some of these items for certain organizational tasks... you may be surprised to discover that you can also achieve a large amount of reorganization by simple creativly reusing items that you already own. Here are a few easy examples to consider using in your house to save money on your next organization project.

  • An old dresser could be repainted and used as storage for all kinds of various items.

  • Oversized bags could be hung in kids rooms to store toys and books.

  • Old suitcases can be stored under kids beds and used for toys, dress up clothes, and other items.

  • Old paint cans can be cleaned out and screwed to the wall from the bottom and used as round cubbies in laundry room, garage, mudrooms, craft rooms, etc... they are perfect to keep tools, paint brushes, markers, stain sticks, keys, etc... in.

  • An old towel rack can be rehung on the back of a door, then using S hooks you can let kids hang backpacks, coats, and gym bags on them.

So if cost is holding you back from finally tackeling that organization project that you have been putting off... try looking around your house for items that can be reused in a creative way to contain your clutter. If you need some help looking at old items in a new light and find uses for them around your home give me a call and I will be happy to help.

Take Advantage of Warmer Weather...

I don't know about you but where we live the weather is supposed to tease us with our first true taste of spring this weekend. Our temperatures are predicted to soar into the middle sixties and even make a valiant attempt at the 70's mark by Sunday.

I love spring! I have never been a very big fan of the cold months of winter and always secretly count down the dark days until they give way to weekends like this one.

As soon as I heard the forecasters expectations for our weekend weather, I began making plans for my family and I to spend as much time as possible outdoors soaking it all in. I have planned a picnic, a trip to the park, some kite flying, and even a possible nature hike as our big spring kickoff.

However, I have also set aside some time for a few outdoor organizational projects that I have been wanting to do, but couldn't bring myself to because of the cold winds. I am going to do some work in our garage first and foremost. The kids love to help sweeping out the garage and finding all of their outdoor toys that had been packed away in the fall.

The other thing that I am planning to spend a little bit of time on is reorganizing our vehicles. During the winter... I am in and out of the car as quick as I can. Resulting in the interior of our van to be more than unorganized by the end of winter.

I challenge each of you, to tackle one outdoor project this weekend when you are outside enjoying the nice temperatures. It doesn't have to take the whole weekend, but if you set aside a few hours out of your day... you'll have a great kickoff to your spring cleaning!
